AFTER VALERIO BELLI (CIRCA 1468-1546)
ITALIAN, 19TH CENTURY
Intaglio with the Entombment
inscribed: VALERIUS DEBELLIS · VICEN F·
partially gilt glass
8.5 by 9.5cm., 3¼ by 3¾in.
Overall the glass is in good condition with minor dirt and wear to the surface consistent with age. There is craquelure to the surface throughout; this is probably a form of binding agent applied to bind the gilding to the glass and it has degenerated over time. The lower gilt border has lifted into the space above. There are bubbles in the glass. There are various minor chips and abrasions in particular to the edges.
