A BLACK MARBLE MANTEL CLOCK WITH RARE KEYLESS WINDING, FRENCH, CIRCA 1880


4¼-inch marble dial, recessed centre painted with holly on a gilt ground and signed West & Son, Dublin, the gilt bezel opening to reveal concealed keyless winding and regulation inscribed Great Britain, Patented 1879, the gong striking movement with makers stamp for Etienne Maxant, Paris, the architectural case with gilt finials, the Corinthian-capped pillars and front panels decorated with holly as the dial

Condition Report

PROSPECTIVE PURCHASERS SHOULD INSPECT IN PERSON. Dial in good condition. Movement is very dirty and not running, extensive rusting to steelwork and will require complete restoration. Case in generally good though very dirty condition, two finials lacking from rear, all gilt mounts very dirty but probably retaining the original gilding beneath the dirt, some clouding to the marble due to damp, some minor edge chips, painted panels in good condition. With pendulum.
