A STRIKING PORTRAIT OF FRANK BORMAN

Frank Borman was selected as an astronaut with NASA's second group (known as the Next Nine) in 1962. In 1966, while commander of Gemini 7, he set a fourteen-day spaceflight endurance record. Borman also served on the NASA review board that investigated the Apollo 1 fire. In December of 1968, Borman flew to the Moon as commander of Apollo 8, the mission known for the now iconic Earthrise photograph. During the Apollo 11 Moon landing mission, Borman served as the NASA liaison at the White House, where he viewed the launch and landing with President Nixon.
