the cover set with rose-cut sapphires and rock crystal, opening to reveal Christ Pantocrator flanked by the Mother of God and John the Baptist, all painted inside reserves surrounded by inlaid mother of pearl and set with square-cut emeralds, engraved on the back with a verse from the Troparion of the Holy Cross, struck on the lower edge with Partnership of Olovyanishnikov with the Imperial warrant, 84 standard; with original fitted case

opened: 7.6 by 14.3cm, 3⅛ by 5⅝in.

Overall in very good condition.

The metal surfaces with only minor surface abrasions, consistent with age. The painted surfaces with a few very minor areas of paint loss, less that 1mm wide and craquelure throughout. The painted areas covered in imitation of glass, with some air and dust particles trapped underneath. The top left stone with a small chip.

The box in very good condition, with expected time wear and darkened lining.
