Yu.Didenko, Robert Falk, Zhivopis'. Dopolneniya k katalogu-rezone, Moscow: Tri kvadrata, 2018, p.41, no.26 (1234) illustrated
Exceptional in its size, Two Bouquets is a rare example of a still life from the artist’s Parisian period. Falk spent ten years in Paris, between 1928 and 1938, and completely fell in love with the city. Drawing inspiration from its architecture, bustling street life and people, the artist painted many portraits and landscapes but the handful of still lifes executed during these years are characterized by their exceptional quality, rich texture and intense colour palette.
Until recently, Two Bouquets was in the collection of the Mishkan Museum of Art in Ein Harod, Israel, whence it was acquired by the present owner. Since the museum's foundation in 1938 by the artist Haim Atar, its principle aim has been to preserve the memory of the Jewish communities destroyed in Europe and it has accumulated an important collection of art, including a number of other works by Russian Jewish artists, such as Marc Chagall, Isaak Levitan and many others.
