A GEORGE III MAHOGANY CROFT CABINET, LATE 18TH CENTURY
the top with flaps to each side above a fitted drawer and cupboard door enclosing alphabetised lidded drawers, the sides with loppers and brass carrying handles, on four concealed brass castors

Probably supplied to Robert Clements, 1st Earl of Leitrim (1732-1804)
Inventory, 26th September 1807, '1 mahogany alphabet' in Lord Leitrim's Dressing Room;
Inventory, 10th February 1812, 'One Alphabet Table' in Lord Leitrim's Dressing Room;
Inventory, April 1830, 'One Alphabet table with Drawers 2 flaps & brass handles' in Lord Leitrim's Dressing Room;
Inventory, 27th June 1836, 'Mahogany alphabet table two flaps brass handle drawer locks and key' in Lord Leitrim's Dressing Room.
Although described as an 'Alphabet Table' in the Killadoon inventories, the model is better known as a 'Croft' cabinet and takes its name from its inventor, The Reverend Sir Herbert Croft, Bt. (1751-1816).
