A DUTCH ENGRAVED PEDESTAL-STEMMED WINE GLASS, 18TH CENTURY


the round conical bowl wheel-engraved with a vignette of a couple staning before the entrance to a celllar, a figure behind the doors fills a goblet from a barrel, below the diamond-point engraved inscription HANSIE IN DE KELDER, the bowl supported by a plain globular knop above an hexagonal section stem with tear inclusion and a folded conical foot 

17.5 cm. high, 6⅞ in.

The scene depicted on the present wine-glass with the euphamistic inscription which translates as "Little Hans in the Cellar" and implied your hostess was with child.
