Property from a Spanish Private Collection
Naples 1634 - 1695 Alicante
Still life with fish and molluscs
oil on canvas
100.3 x 126 cm.; 39½ x 49⅝ in.
The canvas is lined, the paint surface is relatively dirty, and the varnish discoloured and uneven. There is a horizontal crease 5cm. from the upper margin, which runs the width of the canvas, probably the result of an old fold, as well as evidence of light frame abrasion along the left edge. There are small, discoloured retouchings scattered throughout, and a more notable patch in the upper centre of the brass vase. Inspection under ultraviolet light confirms these underneath the fluorescing, uneven varnish. In overall good condition. Offered in a plain, painted wooden frame with some losses.
