oil on canvas

Condition Report

The canvas is lined, the paint surface is relatively clean and the varnish is clear and even. There is some evidence of wear in the darker pigments but much of the impasto brushwork in the still life elements and in the animals remains intact. Inspection under ultraviolet light reveals areas of retouching scattered throughout, the most notable of which are to two small damages in the body of the peacock, to an area measuring 3 x 7 cm. in the foreground lower left, and to two areas in the foreground lower right, the larger of which measures 3 x 10 cm. There are other smaller and less concentrated retouchings scattered in the background and the still life - none of which distract from the legibility of the image. The painting is in overall good condition and is ready to hang without a need for further intervention. Offered in a plain gilt frame in good condition.
