Shipping vessels in stormy waters, the coast beyond
signed lower right on the boat: BPeeters
oil on oak panel
39.6 x 61.1 cm.; 15⅝ x 24 in.
The panel is uncradled, flat and stable. The paint surface is relatively dirty and appears slightly thinned in areas, and the varnish is discoloured. There is a horizontal split which runs the width of the panel a third of the way down from the upper margin, with associated visible retouching, as well two further diagonal repainted surface splits above it by the left margin, both approx. 3cm. There is a restored damage in the sky centre right, 1cm. in diameter. Inspection under ultraviolet light confirms these, and reveals pin-prick retouchings sparsely scattered throughout. In overall fairly good condition. Offered in a plain wooden frame in good condition.
