Condition Report

Property from Various Owners is available to view at the Sotheby’s Greenford Park warehouse, 13 and 16 – 18 September (10 - 4pm), by appointment.

The oak panel is uncradled, flat and stable. The paint surface is slightly dirty and the varnish rather discoloured. Inspection under ultraviolet light reveals numerous small retouchings, which fluoresce palely - they are most notably found throughout the monk's habit and the right-hand side of his face, as well as in the dark arch, centre left, and in the still life, as well as scattered in the background in the right-hand side. A different campaign of restoration consists of pinprick retouchings in the bible. The painting is in overall fair condition.
