Condition Report

Property from the SØR Rusche Collection is available to view at Sotheby’s, New Bond Street, 13 – 18 September (weekdays 9am – 4.30pm; weekend 12-5pm).

The painting is formed of a single plank, and is uncradled, flat and stable. The paint surface is clean and the varnish is clear and even. Inspection under UV reveals small retouchings scattered throughout, most notably in two concentrated patches upper left, each measuring 1 x 1 cm, an area in the sky upper centre measuring 1 x 3 cm, and two areas lower left, the larger of which measures 2 x 2 cm. There are few small retouchings in the figures, save for some strenghening in the back of the left most putto and in the robe of the standing putto at right, as well as some small retouchings in the left most putto and in the stomach of the central putto. None of these retouches distract from the legibility of the image, which remains fresh and ready to hang without the need of further intervention.
