Condition Report

Property from Various Owners is available to view at the Sotheby’s Greenford Park warehouse, 13 and 16 – 18 September (10 - 4pm), by appointment.

Both canvases are lined, the paint surfaces are slightly dirty, and the varnishes are discoloured. There are visible retouchings along all four margins in both pictures.

The former: inspection under ultraviolet light confirms the retouchings along the margins (notably lower and right) and reveals further small spots scattered throughout, with more notable and recent retouchings in the saint's proper left eye, neck and palm.

The latter: inspection under ultraviolet light confirms the retouchings along the margins and reveals further small spots and fine lines scattered throughout, as well as a second campaign of retouchings, which fluoresces lightly, and consists of small spots in both the pieces of paper.

They are both in overall fair condition.
