Condition Report

Property from Various Owners is available to view at the Sotheby’s Greenford Park warehouse, 13 and 16 – 18 September (10 - 4pm), by appointment.

The canvas is lined, and the paint surface has a relatively dirty and discoloured varnish. There are no major damages visible to the naked eye. Inspection under ultraviolet light reveals some retouchings: pin-prick spots and fine lines throughout the sky to reduce the appearance of craquelure; scattered along the lower margin; to two scratches, one diagonal approx. 3 cm. long above the flag centre right, and the other approx. 2 cm. long just to the right of the ship's sail centre left; a spot above the port's gate centre; and scattered in the mountains and trees upper right, including to an area measuring 1.5 x 10 cm. The rest of the composition remains largely untouched. In overall good condition.
