This painting is inspired by the works of Flemish masters such as Jan Brueghel the Elder, Pieter van Avont, and Hendrick van Balen. The subject of this painting derives from Ovid's Metamorphoses (XIV) and shows Vertumnus, the Roman god of seasons, tricking Pomona into talking to him by disguising himself as an old woman.
