VENUS WITH A LANDSCAPE IN THE BACKGROUND
oil on copper
copper: 8 by 11½ in.; 20.5 by 29.2 cm.
framed: 18 by 21 in.; 45.7 by 53.3 cm.
The copper is stable with a minor bend on the bottom left corner that it is barely visible. Underneath an old varnish a decorative scene reads well. The paint has thinned in certain areas such as on the green drapery and stone ledge. Some retouching is visible on the red robe, right above the knee of the sitter. Inspection under UV shows some thinly applied retouches scattered on the body of the reclining figure, meanwhile a more concentrated area is on the silhouette of her arms, especially by the elbows and the white cloth the hand holds by her stomach. Scattered small spots of retouches are here and there on the stone ledge and robe as well as on the top right quadrant. Offered in an elaborately carved giltwood frame.
