Description

Property from an Italian Private Collection

PSEUDO-JAN VAN KESSEL II

active in southern Europe in the second half of the 17th century

A still life of flowers in a porcelain bowl and a squirrel on a stone ledge

oil on copper

12.3 x 17.4 cm.; 14⅞ x 6⅞ in.

Condition Report

The painting is very good overall condition. The copper panel is stable and secured on a wooden stretcher. The paint surface appears well preserved, with no signs of wear or any significant damages, save an old 4 cm surface scratch lower right above the squirrel. The varnish layer has slightly discoloured. Ultra-violet light is impeded by the varnish but reveals only old strengthenings in the background and ledge. The flowers are all intact.

This lot is offered with a modern stained and veneered wood frame in very good condition
