Condition Report

Overall the conditoin of the wood of both reliefs is good, with some dirt and wear to the surface consistent with age. The wood is carved in sections and joints are slightly visible to both reliefs, on the Resurrection to the left of Christ's head running vertically, and on the Lamentation a vertical joint on the left third of the relief, and a horizontal joint running just above the inscription. There is minor stable splitting to the wood to the bottom left corner of the Resurrection relief. There are a few minor losses, including to the Resurrection relief to the face of the angel on the left, to the tips of Christ's toes on the proper right foot and to a part of his proper left foot, and to the cuff and the nose of the sleeping soldier in the right bottom corner; and to the Lamentation relief to the tips of Christ and the Virgin's noses. There is evidence of past worming, in particular to the bottom right corner of the Resurrection relief, where there are a few small losses to the edge and corner. There is wear to the polychromy and gilding throughout, including some losses. The polychromy has been refreshed in areas, in particular to the blue ground.
