bears early inscriptions in pen and ink, on the reverse of the backing: 3, No= and Vte.,  and later inscriptions, in black chalk: Berent Avercamp (deleted) / Willem Buyteweg  and WOttley / Given me by my Brother / Herbert, March 24 1857
