Condition Report

Lower left corner some slight water damage around the margin. Scratch running 1.7cm from the left edge, 1.6 cm from the base and overall light crazing of paint leading to occasional minor losses.

Catalogue Note

Johann Wilhelm Baur studied with Friedrich Brentel and was, like his master, a miniaturist and an engraver (see the following lot). Most of Baur's compositions are, though, more dominated by their architectural elements, and the rather pastoral aspect of the present work provides a refreshing counterpoint to his typical, highly detailed technique.
