SEED PEARL, GEM-SET AND ENAMEL TURBAN ORNAMENT (TURRA)
Designed as a gold and silver bird topped with a flower, applied with polychrome enamel, and set with antique rose and table-cut diamonds and other near colorless gemstones, the eyes set with cabochon emeralds, suspending a seed pearl tassel terminating in emerald beads; 19th century.
In good condition given the age of this piece. Mounting tests as 18 karat gold and silver. With later brooch fitting. The red, green, blue, yellow and white enamel in good overall condition, with some small areas of loss. The stones on the flower motif all test as diamonds. The remaining stones (on the bird and tassel cap) are a near colorless natural gemstone, not diamond, which cannot be clearly identified due to the mounting. The diamonds and near colorless gemstones are all of decorative quality. The seed pearls are of cream body color, with natural blemishes. The emerald beads are medium light to deep green, heavily included. Length approximately 4¼ inches. Gross weight approximately 48 dwts.
