This watch belongs to an exceedingly rare group of jump-hour watches made by Patek Philippe. According to our research, only ten watches featuring such a complication have come to market, fewer still dressed in pink gold. Jump-hour watches, both pocket and wristwatches, were made in notably small numbers, and often only by special order.
The present lot was made especially for the prominent Philadelphia retailer, Bailey, Banks & Biddle originally founded in 1832.
Jump Hour pocket watches first appeared in the early 19th century, rising to fashion during the Art Deco period. The visually unique, clean and simplistic dial configuration matched perfectly with the Deco style defined by ultra modern, sleek and polished finishes.
A similar jump hour watch is illustrated in Huber M, Banbery A, Patek Philippe, Second Edition, 1993, p. 160. pl. 107a
