Reference 5270 was first introduced at Basel in 2011 as the largest perpetual calendar chronograph wristwatch serially produced by Patek Philippe. The model, cased in a large 41 mm case is further distinguished by the in-house caliber, CH 29-535 PS, and the subsidiary counters located below the central axis of the dial. By compressing the subsidiary counters to the lower half of the dial, each counter is able to be larger in size for legibility.
In 2013, Patek Philippe launched the second series of reference 5270, featuring a new dial highlighted by a pronounced and rather unique tachometer scale. As the date and moon phase counter eclipsed the seconds track, it seemed impossible to fit another scale to the perimeter of the dial. To solve this problem, Patek Philippe integrated the seconds and tachometer scales into one track. The scale encircles the date counter in a whimsical semi-circle shape at 6 o'clock.
Patek Philippe perpetual calendar chronograph wristwatches from all periods have become highly sought-after by collectors around the globe and the new reference 5270 is already considered as a modern classic. The present lot is offered in excellent like-new condition.
