PROPERTY FROM AN ENGLISH PRIVATE COLLECTION
A CELADON JADE 'PHOENIX AND PEACH' RUYI SCEPTRE
QING DYNASTY, 19TH CENTURY
the ruyi-shaped terminal carved in low-relief with a gnarled branch issuing peaches, surmounted by a phoenix grasping in its beak a further sprig of peaches, the shaft adorned with an elongated branch of finger citrons emerging from rockworks to the base, the polished stone of an even celadon tone with light russet inclusions
Length 35.7 cm, 14⅛ in.
The ruyi sceptre is in very good condition. It should be noted that the stone is of a slightly lighter celadon tone than the catalogue illustration would suggest.
