12mo (4 3/8 x 5 1/2 in.; 112 x 140 mm). Half-title; one or two stray spots. Original orange cloth, spine gilt lettered, endleaf stamped "complementary copy not for sale", in original orange dustjacket printed in black; some foxing to endleaves, one or two nicks to head and tail of jacket spine panel. In custom gray linen over marbled board clamshell case.


First edition, review copy, presented to Margaret Willy


Only 3,000 copies of the first edition of Deaths and Entrances were printed, and the collection contains some of Thomas's most worthy verse, to include “A Refusal to Mourn the Death, By Fire, of a Child in London,” “Poem in October,” “In My Craft and Sullen Art,” and “Fern Hill.”

Margaret Willy, an accomplished academic publishing primarily in the 1950s and 60s wrote extensively on English literature from the 17th century onward, and was an early voice in the field of modernist criticism.
