 I Quattro Libri Dell'Architettura. Venice: Dominico de' Franceschi, 1570 [i.e. Venice: 1768]

4 parts in 1, folio (338 x 248 mm), 4 engraved title-pages and numerous illustrations after the original 1570 woodcuts; a few scattered spots, very minor marginal worming to parts 3 & 4. Contemporary half morocco over marbled boards, spine gilt in 6 compartments, edges stained red, marbled endpapers; rubbed, upper joints cracked but holding.

A fine later copy of this important architectural treatise

Published by Joseph Smith, British Consul at Venice, this facsimile edition was intended not as a forgery but to meet the demand for a textbook occasioned by the eighteenth-century Palladian revival.
