Presentation copy, inscribed with a poem and signed by Milne to his American publisher, 12 February 1926, on the half-title: "To John Macrae | For the noble way | He sells this book in the U.S.A. | So now I say to myself, I say: | In the years to come, when I'm old and grey, | And such skill as I have shall have passed away, | I shall still be living on John Macrae!"
