AN EGYPTIAN LIMESTONE SARCOPHAGUS MASK, 30TH DYNASTY/EARLY PTOLEMAIC PERIOD, CIRCA 250-200 B.C.


from the lid of a large anthropoid sarcophagus, wearing a broad beaded collar and tripartite wig, the idealized face with mouth rounded at the corners, and almond-shaped eyes with long incised cosmetic lines and eyebrows in relief.

Height 55 cm.

Dr. Hans Hitzler, Bochum, Germany, acquired prior to WWII

by descent to the present owner
