A KAZAK RUNNER, WEST CAUCASUS
third quarter 19th century
approximately 300 by 108cm; 9ft. 10in., 3ft. 7in.
(Rug is woven in direction illustrated on web and opposite in printed catalogue. Orientation in condition report relates to web illustration.) Lovely piece, with generally 4 mm pile and gorgeous soft wool with a great variety of colour. Gentle oxidisation of dark browns generally, down to knot bars in central diamond of top motif in main field. Outer edge of guard stripes heavily oxidised, side cords possibly later restoration, ends tidied and overlocked at one end, other needs overlocking. A very nice piece indeed.
