ITALIAN, VENICE, CIRCA 1820
PAIR OF STYLISED BUSTS
Belgian black marble, with breccia polychrome marble drapery and lapis lazuli inlay, on red marble socles with gilt bronze mounts
65cm., 25⅝in. and 68cm., 26¾in. overall
Overall the condition of the busts is very good, with minor dirt and wear to the surfaces consistent with age. The busts are composed of sections, and stable original joints are slightly visible throughout. The man's lower button is lost, and there are small holes in the woman's ears for now-lost earrings. There are a few small chips, including to the woman's drapery at the proper left shoulder. There are a few stable open veins and fissures in the different marbles, and notably at the woman's proper right breast and the man's collar on his proper right side. There are a few areas of fill, such as at the man's proper left shoulder. There are a few minor surface scratches and abrasions.
