GAETANO ROSSI, AFTER THE ANTIQUE
BUST OF THE VENUS OF CAPUA
signed and dated: G. Rossi / NApoli, inscribed in ink to the reverse: Venus victorieuse dit Venus de Capoue and inscribed to the socle: Musee du Naples.
Overall the condition of the marble is very good with minor dirt and wear to the surface consistent with age. The bust sits loose on its socle. There are remnants of an old label to the front of the bust and to the socle. There are a few specks of darkish dirt, including to the forehead, to the proper right cheek, and to the hair. There are a few naturally occurring inclusions, in particular to above the proper left clavicle. There is particular dirt to the crevice between the proper right arm and the chest. There are a few minor chips to the edges of the truncation and the socle.
