Overall the condition of the marble is good, with minor dirt and wear to the surface consistent with age. The marble appears to have been placed outdoors in the past, resulting in a slightly coarse surface. There are several small naturally occurring inclusions, in particular around the upper body and the proper right thigh. A few very minor chips and abrasions at the high points.

Little biographical material on Pittaluga has been published. His Nymph, however, here in an elegant pose, belongs to a tradition of marble statuary current in fin-de-siècle Italy. The grace with which the Nymph is holding the flowers adds to the profound tenderness and serenity of the model, caught in a gentle state of contemplation.
A slightly reduced version of the present model was sold in these rooms on 10 July 2019, lot 77.
