ITALIAN OR BRITISH, 19TH CENTURY
GODDESS OF THE NIGHT
white marble, on a revolving white and grey marble column
figure: 119cm., 46⅞in.
column: 86cm., 33⅞in.
Overall the condition of the marble is good with minor dirt and wear to the surface consistent with age. The proper right little finger is lost and the tip of the next finger is reattached. There is minor natural veining to the marble throughout consistent with the material, in particular to the torso and globe. There is a slightly open vein at the proper left wrist. There are a few small naturally occurring inclusions. There are traces of an ink inscription to the drapery at the back. The marble would benefit from a professional cleaning as there is surface dirt. The probably original revolving base is in good condition with minor chips and abrasions to the edges and dirt residues (some orange staining at the bottom).
