Grieg explique que son essai a été largement traduit, notamment en Allemagne, et serait ravi qu’il le soit également en suédois. Néanmoins, ayant cédé ses droits d’auteur, il n’est pas en son pouvoir d’autoriser la traduction, ni de demander le paiement de son essai : Jeg ser naturligvis gjerne at min afhandling bliver bekjendt hos det svenske publikum, men nogen tilladelse står det ikke i min magt at give. I intet tilfælde ønsker jeg noget honarar. L’essai de Grieg sur Mozart, écrit en 1896 pour la publication américaine The Century illustrated monthly magazine, a été republié de nombreuses fois : “Mozart, écrit-il en danois, est, pour nous, l’incarnation même de la joie enfantine, de l’aimable bonne volonté et de l’humilité. Il était capable de monter sa Flûte Enchantée dans le théâtre de Schikaneder sans compromettre sa dignité artistique.
