Condition

The canvas is not lined. Inspection under UV light reveals a thick varnish and some minor scattered spots of retouching to the sky, predominantly running along the extreme upper edge. There is a further small spot of retouching in the rocks at the lower centre of the composition; as well as some further in-painting to the craquelure in the sea. There is a repaired puncture to the centre left of the upper edge. There are two stretcher bar marks at the centre of the composition, which have been re-touched and are only visible under raking light. The fine craquelure is stable. There is some minor evidence of old frame abrasion to the extreme edges, not visible when framed. This work is in overall good condition.
