The blue enamel presents with a few tiny losses scattered, mostly concentrated to one panel and a slightly larger surface loss on approx. 1 cm on this same panel, not visually distracting. There is a circular area that presents with hairline crack and uplifting to the throat of Athena. Some instances of light wear to the framing elements.

Catalogue Note

This enamelled metal panel is inspired from a drawing of Athéna supplied by Gustave Miklos to François-Louis Schmied to illustrate an edition of The Odyssey published between 1931 and 1933 by la Compagnie des Bibliophiles de l'Automobile-Club de France. This drawing is listed in the Odysseus section of the notebook Travaux exécutés pour François depuis l'an 1922 included in the Miklos family archives. François-Louis Schmied called on Gustave Miklos' talent throughout his career. Schmied's work is intimately tied to Miklos', and many of the characteristics and influences of the latter can be found in the offered lot.

We would like to thank Mrs Carole Chenevier for her help with the cataloguing of this lot.
