Condition

The canvas is unlined. There are areas along the right edge where the paint surface is lifting and there have been losses - we recommend stabilising this and retouching the lost areas. The paint surface is dirty and the picture should be brightened by a light clean. UNDER ULTRAVIOLET LIGHT There are areas of retouching in the sky and a small area of retouching to the trousies of the man standing with his back to the viewer. FRAME The picture is contained in a moulded plaster frame (probably the original).
