Condition
This work is in very good condition overall. The linen is unstretched, and there is an undulation throughout, due to the nature of the artist's chosen medium. The edges are uneven, inherent to the artist's working method, and slightly frayed, visible upon close inspection. There are tears to the upper corners. The left and the two right-most grommets along the upper edge are missing hardware. There are minor pinpoint accretions throughout, visible upon very close inspection, some of which fluoresce under Ultraviolet light inspection, none of which disturb the overall composition. Under Ultraviolet light inspection there is no evidence of restoration. Unframed.

Catalogue Note
Bold and viscerally present, 'Fountain of Youth' features Richard Hambleton's signature "shadowman". Hambleton tagged the figure throughout lower Manhattan in the 1980s and on a variety of surfaces through his studio practice. Hambleton's work can currently be seen in the exhibition 'Club 57: Film, Performance, and Art in the East Village, 1978–1983' at the Museum of Modern Art, New York through April 1.
