Catalogue Note

The artist of this painting is not recorded, and shouldn’t be confused with the Isma’il Kashmiri who worked on the Baburnama during Emperor Akbar's reign (1556-1605).

The halo and the physical appearance recall a young Shah Jahan (r.1627-58), see a portrait now in the Victoria and Albert Museum, inv. no.IM17-1925 in the Minto Album (published in Robinson 2007, p.148).
