Catalogue Note

A handful of illustrations from a mid-seventeenth century manuscript of Yusuf va Zulaykha survive, mostly in the Chester Beatty Library, Dublin (see Leach 1995, vol.II, 9.663-9.665, 9.668-9.669, pp.935, 937-941), and it is possible that the present miniature is another from this series. Others are in the British Library (India Office Collections, see Falk and Archer 1981, no.90), the San Diego Museum of Art (Edwin Binney Collection, see Binney 1973, no.63) and one was sold in these rooms, 16 October 1996, lot 82).
