Catalogue Note

Examples of daggers in which both the hilt and scabbard were carved completely out of ivory are rare. The foliate motifs on the scabbard and handle recall carving on Mughal and Deccani furniture, see for example a box sold in these rooms, 6 October 2015, lot 136 and a plaque sold on 24 October 2017, lot 182.
