Condition

Not relined. Minor craquelure mainly visible in the stones in the lower left quadrant. One retouching in the centre of the right edge and in the upper right corner. Under UV light retouching visible along the upper, left and right edges. Very good condition.

Catalogue Note

During his later years, the Danish artist travelled throughout the Mediterranean and spent a great deal of time in Switzerland. The present painting is an exquisite example of Monsted’s Swiss period, which was largely inspired by François Bocion.

Der dänische Maler Peder Monsted verbrachte auf seiner Reise durch das südliche Europa einen längeren Aufenthalt in der Schweiz. Das vorliegende Gemälde ist ein wunderbares Beispiel aus Monsteds Schweizer Zeit, in welcher der Maler künstlerisch vom waadtländer Maler François Bocion intensiv beeinflusst war.
