Catalogue Note

Certainly not all the colours get along if picked up separately and paired against their tendency. The Rosso cadmio and the Bleu cobalto or Turchese are in contrast or shriek if they are together, as do the Verde smeraldo or the Arancio chiaro. In these cases, however, these colours are complementary, and the darker one may seem, as in an impressionist painting, the shadow of the lighter one.

We sift through the stairs mixing contrasting colours and alternating black and white in the mixture, we will make contrasting scales or, once again, the contrasting harmony scales. From the scales, namely, where the alternation of contrasts takes place in a harmonious way, the dissonances will be organized to be no more pleasing to the eye, but to have more significance or effect, such as sounds in Dodecaphonic Music.
