Catalogue Note

In 1833, Lassus executed a series of four views of the Palais des Tuileries, which was presented at the 1833 Salon, n°2687, titled "Le Palais des Tuileries tel qu'il fut projeté et en partie exécuté en 1564 par Philibert Delorme pour Catherine de Médicis". The fourth view, titled "Vue perspective de cette façade", could be our composition. Another watercolor with the same dimension kept at the Musée d'Orsay, Paris, is inscribed "Façade générale du Palais des Tuileries côté du jardin projetée et en partie exécutée par Philibert-de-Lorme". It was given by Madame Lassus in 1857 to the State and then given to the museum. This replica was probably kept by the artist as a souvenir of his project.
