Condition

The illustration of the catalogue is accurate despite being too orange. The black leather top is probably later and is slightly rubbed with some scratches. There are some restorations to the veneer with 'gomme laque' paste filling. It is possible that some mounts have been regilt particularly the chutes, feet and cartouches. They have a quite redish aspect on the surface despite the escutcheons of the keyhole seem to not have been touched. The handles on both sides are certainly later additions (as on lot 66). Beautiful table en chiffonnière stamped by BVRB, one of the most famous cabinetmaker of the mid-18th century. As stated in the catalogue the inside inkstand box has the inscription in ink '3 pces argentés' ('3 silvered pieces') and indicates that the marchand-mercier Simon-Philippe Poirier probably delivered the table. As lot 66, very delicate marquetry. Prestigious Rothschild and Redé provenances.
