Catalogue Note

Typical of Rococo art's vitality, this pair of chenets with Chinese statuettes is, with the exception of the fully gilt figures of our example, in all respects similar to a pair from a private collection presented at the exhibition on vernis Martin at the Musée des Arts décoratifs in Paris in 2014. This pair probably corresponds to those from Baron Guy de Rothschild's former collection sold during the dispersal of lots belonging to Baron de Redé and Baron Guy de Rothschild (Sotheby's Monaco on 26 May 1975, Lot 220).
