Condition

Laid down on paper. - The work is slightly faded ; - Upper right corner is missing a bit ; - Minor tears on the upper right and upper left borders ; - Minor chips are missing ; - Traces of restoration on the horse's leg, maybe an old tear which was restored ; - Waves slightly ; A few dirt spots are scattered on the surface. Good overall condition.

Catalogue Note

This watercolor is traditionnally considered as a portrait of the comte d'Orsay. Painter, sculptor and famous dandy, the comte d'Orsay created perfumes and is at the origin of the maison de parfums d'Orsay. Constantin Guys most probably met him in London.
