Catalogue Note

Dated between 1852 and 1855, this work shows Moreau's passion for horses since his childhood. Stylistically, Chassériau's influence on his student is visible. Moreau paints numerous equestrian scenes in his youth, and all his life, as Pierre-Louis Mathieu writes "His love for horses lasted all his life, and he later represented them in a more epic fashion" (op. cit. p. 27).
