Condition

Colour: The colours in the catalogue illustration are fairly accurate although the overall tonality and the central form tends more towards true yellow in the original. Condition: This work is in very good condition. All collaged elements are stable and secure. There are a few isolated cracks in the yellow pigment towards the upper half of the composition, characteristic of the artist's choice of material and its ageing process. Very close inspection reveals a very faint spot of wear to upper left extreme corner tip and a few networks of very thin and stable hairline cracks in the black pigment. Extremely close inspection reveals a few pinprick-sized media accretions isolated in places. No restoration is apparent when examined under ultraviolet light.

Catalogue Note

"If you stream the paint slowly, you can create a stream like a river on the surface of the canvas…Once when I was watching a river flow, I had the thought that I could use that approach in my painting. With a river, after the rain stops and the sky clears, the water also clears up, and deposits of sand create beautiful patterns in the riverbed. I’m doing the same thing with paint."
