Édition originale, imprimée sur papier vélin fort, du plus extraordinaire ouvrage de Grandville, écrit et illustré dans la veine surréaliste.
Frontispice en noir et 36 planches coloriées, plus de nombreuses vignettes gravées sur bois dans le texte, le tout par Grandville.

La grande plaque centrale est signée Liebherre. Elle reproduit le frontispice dessiné par Grandville montrant la Charge et la Fantaisie passant de l’ancien monde à l’autre.
Cité par Carteret, l’exemplaire a fait partie de la bibliothèque Legrand (1912, n°220), puis a appartenu à Descamps-Scrive (II, 1925, n°352).
